Madri Haveli

  • 70, Ganesh Ghati, Udaipur, Rajasthan, India

If you want to be in the hub of the Udaipur old town action, then Madri Haveli could be a good choice for you. Housed in a restored 300 year-old Haveli that used to belong to the King of Madri, the Haveli is now owned by a French hotelier who has undertaken an extensive renovation of the property with plans afoot to expand into the building next door. Set around an internal courtyard, rooms are simple and minimalist - with dark wood furnishings, white walls and polished concrete floors. It's worth noting that the cheaper options do come up small and don't offer air-conditioning but with such reasonable room rates, we'd recommend upgrading to Deluxe or even a Suite the largest of which comes with pretty multi-coloured stain glass windows. Wifi doesn't stretch to all corners of the property but works perfectly well in the central points and the charming staff are on hand to assist with any advice you need. Madri Haveli is an unpretentious, centrally located and great value option for your stay in Udaipur.

A few details

Food + Drink There is a small restaurant on the roof, which has views out over the sprawling city of Udaipur. A simple but wholesome breakfast is served. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner serving authentic Mughlai cuisine and Rajasthani dishes and snacks and light meals are available during the day. It's worth noting that Madri Haveli is currently not licensed to serve alcohol
Neighbourhood Located in the old-town area of Udaipur, the City Palace is about 5-minutes' walk away as is the Chand Pole Puliya footbridge. The small streets here are lined with shops, restaurants and guesthouses. It has the typical bustle of an Indian city, although the Old Town area is focused very heavily on tourism – and can feel that way as you wonder around
Location Udaipur Airport is around 23km away, whilst Udaipur Railway Station is 5km away. Madri Haveli is at the top of a small hill, set on one of the narrow roads in the old town – so cars can’t really get to it. If you’re arriving by car, it is about 500m walk from where the cars can get to. The staff at the Haveli will be happy to come down and help carry luggage. Alternatively, you can get a rickshaw.
