Volkshotel

  • Wibautstraat 150, Amsterdam, Netherlands

If you reckon you’re a bit of a creative, then Volkshotel is where you should be staying whilst you’re in Amsterdam. Once the offices of De Volkskrant newspaper, this boutique is just a 10-minute walk from the trendy part of town, or next door to a metro spot if you prefer not to use your legs while on holiday. They’ve done a great renovation job, offering a nod to the building's former life as a print journal with an array of historical shots and newsprint wallpaper. Kooky beds appear in all formats: as balconies, suspended from ceilings or dug into the floor. Some of the rooms can come up a bit cosy but they are well designed, with many boasting cracking city views. The rooftop is a great place to sit and drink in the skyline and there’s even a hot tub if you fancy it. A quirky choice for your stay in Amsterdam. Enjoy.

Best time to go

Amsterdam is great whenever you go but we particularly like springtime in the city, when there are generally fewer tourists around and the beautiful spring flowers are in full bloom
