Wibautstraat 150, Amsterdam, Netherlands
If you reckon you’re a bit of a creative, then Volkshotel is where you should be staying whilst you’re in Amsterdam. Once the offices of De Volkskrant newspaper, this boutique is just a 10-minute walk from the trendy part of town, or next door to a metro spot if you prefer not to use your legs while on holiday. They’ve done a great renovation job, offering a nod to the building's former life as a print journal with an array of historical shots and newsprint wallpaper. Kooky beds appear in all formats: as balconies, suspended from ceilings or dug into the floor. Some of the rooms can come up a bit cosy but they are well designed, with many boasting cracking city views. The rooftop is a great place to sit and drink in the skyline and there’s even a hot tub if you fancy it. A quirky choice for your stay in Amsterdam. Enjoy.
